Above is a production run example of this Bachmann accessory.  The caboose was only produced in Santa Fe livery.  The 1977 catalog includes a picture of a solid red caboose, which is considered to be a pre-production example and does not reflect any production run offerings.  The 1978 retail price for this item was $8.00.
 

Bachmann introduces the HO-Scale Operating Action Caboose with Pick Up Platform in an expansion of the accessories line in 1977.  The 1977 catalog image is presented above.
