Life-Like adds its 50ft. Evans Slide Door High Roof Box Car to the company's HO-Scale trains in the early 1980s.  Though it has worn many paint schemes over the years, the model's prototypes are known to exist originally only with Western Pacific and Penn Central.

PROTO 1000 50' HI ROOF BOX CAR
Life-Like's PROTO 1000 Series included three freight cars that graduated from the ranks of the company's former standard line of HO-Scale products.  The 100-Ton Hopper, Thrall Door Box Car and this 50' Hi Roof Box Car all received improvements and new paint scheme offerings and joined the PROTO 1000 line.  As a PROTO 1000 car, the 50' Hi Roof could be found decorated in light green and lettered for Penn Central or as a box car red example with yellow Western Pacific lettering.  The shell itself remained the same between the standard Life-Like runs and the PROTO 1000 issue.  The improvement came in the new underframe the car was given with body mounted knuckle couplers and greatly improved wheel sets.
